OAKLAND ATHLETICS 1972 World Series Champions

Oakland Athletics VS Cincinnati Reds
October 14, 1972 - October 22, 1972

The Swingin' A's have definitely earned their nickname as the Hairs went on to defeat the Big Red Machine in the 1972 World Series. The series was so called "The Hairs VS. The Squares in which the Reds had more traditional players while the A's had lots of hair, explosive skill and colorful nicknames.

The Swingin' A's as it is referred to the group of mustachioed players of the 70's, who played their hearts out charging to the base, hitting well and of course, most importantly winning. The group of players on the 70's Oakland A's team: including Charlie Finley, Rollie Fingers and so on have played extremely well that they won the 1972, 1973 and 1974 World Series titles and thus were coined the term "the Swingin' A's."

The Reds on the other hand gave a great fight, but lost in Game 7. The two great dynasties of the 70's battled well, but in the end, it was the A's that would reach a milestone of 3-PEAT from 1972-1974. Perhaps it was the most exciting team of that era.
